The project ICAREWOUNDS aims to transform the care provided to patients with chronic wounds. Involving seven organisations from five countries, our interdisciplinary work is intended to bring aid to carers around the globe. The initiative has a strong focus on personalised care aimed at acceleration of treatment of slow-healing wounds.
Our work on the ICAREWOUNDS platform has progressed to verifications tests by first persons. Led by Łukasz Kmiecik, tech lead from Sigoria Security Solutions Ltd (Poland), the tests are aimed at frontend functionality. The features that are being tested right now are correct loading of patient data, generating wound reports and proper functioning of overall User Interface. We are one step closer to having a fully operating platform for use by professionals.
The progress of development of a digital platform that facilitates integrated care for patients using eHealth technologies and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (TAI) to optimize clinical management, personalised treatment and monitoring of chronic wounds is proceeding steadily.
In the first year of implementation of the project we carried out a thorough analysis of chronic wound care processes in Ireland, Poland and Spain identifying the characteristics of each healthcare system. Based on these findings, the consortium has designed a standardised and integrated care model that includes key factors such as hygiene, nutrition, and other elements that influence recovery.
Our hopes for the future of treating wounds is a holistic approach with the help of approachable AI tech which would make the whole process faster and easier for both patients and medical professionals. More and more medical procedures are being AI-assisted with the goal to speed up the diagnostic or decision making process, so the rational step to take by software companies is to concentrate on development of AI in this field.
